PETALING JAYA: A late strike by Safawi Rasid secured three points for Kuala Lumpur as they moved up to second place in the Super League after beating Melaka 2-1 on Saturday (March 7).

The City Boys took the lead at the Cheras Stadium in the 40th minute after Kamal Azizi Zabri sent the ball flying past Melaka goalkeeper Samuel Somerville.

Melaka’s equaliser came late in the match when South Korean midfielder Park Kwang-il tapped the ball into the net in the 86th minute.

But just as Kuala Lumpur looked set to drop points, Safawi struck in injury time to seal victory for his side.

Kuala Lumpur now sit second with 39 points, while Melaka remain 12th with 11 points.

Meanwhile, Kuching City are just two points behind Kuala Lumpur after they beat Sabah 2-0.

The Cats commanded the game at the Sarawak Stadium, with Joao Pedro scoring early on in the fifth minute, before Petrus Shitembi extended the lead in the 26th minute.

The two goals were enough to put Kuching in third place with 37 points, while Sabah sit in 10th with 15 points.

At the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Negri Sembilan and Penang settled for a 3-3 draw.

Penang’s Dylan Wenzel-Halls put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute, but Negri’s Jovan Motika quickly replied with a long-range goal seven minutes later.

The Black Panthers managed to snatch the lead through Tchetche Kipre in the 78th minute, but again Negri leveled things swiftly four minutes later.

In the 88th minute, Negri finally got themselves in front with a goal from Joseph Esso, but Penang were awarded a penalty in injury time, and Stefano Brundo converted the spot kick to ensure the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Both teams share 19 points in the Super League as Negri are ahead by goal difference in seventh and Penang are in eighth.
