Terengganu and KL share the spoils in first-leg Malaysia Cup tie

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Kuala Lumpur in their Malaysia Cup quarter-finals first leg match at the Sultan Zainal Abidin Stadium on Friday (Feb 6).

The Turtles took the lead on home turf in the 16th minute when Gervane Kastaneer sent a shot flying past Kuala Lumpur goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad.

The City Boys increased the pressure in the second half and secured an equaliser late in the game through winger Nicolao Dumitru.

The 84th-minute goal was created thanks to an assist from substitute Safawi Rasid.

Terengganu thought they had found a winning goal in injury time, but Baqiuddin Shamsudin’s chip over Kammeraad was disallowed.

The referee ruled the goal out due to a foul committed on Zhafri Yahya before the ball hit the net.

The second leg match is scheduled to take place at the Cheras Stadium on Feb 13.
