Kuching City a step closer to Malaysia Cup semis with 3-1 triumph over Brunei

PETALING JAYA: Kuching City grabbed a comfortable advantage in the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals after they beat Brunei 3-1 at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium on Saturday (Feb 7).

The Cats put themselves ahead in the first half after Cameroonian forward Jerome Etame scored in the 39th minute.

Visitors Kuching were unlucky when captain James Okwusa deflected the ball into his own net to give Brunei the equaliser in the 50th minute.

Kuching's luck then turned when Brunei goalkeeper Haimie Abdullah Nyaring failed to clear a corner kick and scored an own goal to give Kuching a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute.

Forward Ramadhan Saifullah then sealed the win for Kuching in the 83rd minute to ensure his side a two-goal cushion.

The second leg match will be played at the Sarawak Stadium on Feb 14.
