PETALING JAYA: Terengganu midfielder Raianderson Da Costa has credited his impressive recent form to family support, as the Brazilian prepares to welcome a new addition to his household later this month.

The 30-year-old playmaker, commonly known as Careca, has been in outstanding touch since joining the Turtles.

He said the presence of his wife and son in Terengganu, along with the impending birth of his second child, has helped him settle quickly.

“My family is the most important thing to me. My wife and son are here in Terengganu, and my wife is pregnant. The baby will be born here, this month,” said Da Costa.

With that support, he wants to go all the way with his club in the Malaysia Cup when Terengganu host Kuala Lumpur in the first-leg quarter-finals at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak today.

“We are hoping to go as far as possible in the Malaysia Cup. We always think about the final and winning the title,” he said.

“We know Kuala Lumpur are a very strong opponent, but we will play our first game at home. We hope to put in a great performance and get a win.

Terengganu will be aiming to take a healthy advantage into the second leg as they continue their push for silverware.

Da Costa has enjoyed a productive season, registering 11 goals and one assist in 22 appearances across all competitions.

He has also been named man of the match six times and included in the team of the week on six occasions, contributing to 14 goal involvements while starting all 22 matches.

“I’m happy with my individual performance, but the most important thing is Terengganu’s victory,” he added.

Da Costa joined the east coast side from South Korean club Gangneung Citizen, with many believing that he is there to fill the numbers because he came from a third division side.

But he has shown versatility and commitment by operating in a deeper central midfield role when required. At times, he also becomes the captain of the team thanks to his vision and command on the field.

With such a committed player, the Turtles would hope that their man from the land of Samba can continue to entertain the fans in the domestic scene.
