PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur may be flying high in the Super League standings, but off-field salary woes are once again casting a shadow over the City Boys.
Former goalkeeping coach Guilherme Almeida has spoken out, claiming the club still owe him salary arrears.
The 42-year-old Brazilian revealed the issue yesterday – just two days after Kuala Lumpur were held to a 1-1 draw by Police in their Super League clash at the Selayang Stadium on Friday.
“I went almost seven months without pay and almost two years since then, they have still failed to pay me. I’ve already helped a lot.
“It’s a shame. You dedicate many years of your life to a place, and almost two years go by without receiving your money,” said Almeida.
Almeida, who joined Kuala Lumpur in 2022, left the club in 2024 due to wage problems.
“Someone from the club’s management said I’m not helping the club. But there’s no way to help anymore.’’
Almeida added that he received a partial payment in November last year but has heard nothing since.
“It’s February and I still haven’t been contacted by anyone. I’m still waiting for a statement,” he said.
The Brazilian is now working with Vietnam club Viettel FC.
Previously, the Football Association of Malaysia had instructed Kuala Lumpur to settle outstanding payments to Viettel in September. After the club failed to comply, FIFA imposed a three-window transfer ban.
Despite the controversy, Kuala Lumpur currently sit third in the Super League and salvaged a point against Police thanks to Declan Lambert’s second-half equaliser, after Elsiha Kashim had given the visitors the lead.
