PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan winger Anuar Ceesay (pic) has admitted that the jump to the Super League has been a steep one after making his debut for the club in their 1–0 defeat to Selangor on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Deer from A1 Semi-Pro side Universiti Malaya (UM)-Damansara, made his first top-flight appearance at the Petaling Jaya Stadium and acknowledged that the demands of the Super League extend far beyond what he experienced at semi-pro level.
“It’s a huge difference. The other is somewhat part-time football, so you’re not training as much,” said the Malaysian-English-Gambian.
“There is also a lot more that goes into the planning for matches and training in the Super League.”
Ceesay, who also featured in England’s non-league Division One with Leatherhead before arriving in Malaysia last year, said the difference was clear but he hopes to get into the mode.
“The more games I play, the more comfortable I get, and more confident too.
“My personal target is to be involved in every game,” said Ceesay, whose Malaysian heritage comes from his grandmother.
Ceesay played for UM-Damansara when they faced giants Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the FA Cup last 16.
In the second leg clash, Ceesay scored two goals against the Southern Tigers, but the club bowed out after JDT won 5-3.
