PETALING JAYA: Midfielder Stuart Wilkin (pic) bade an emotional farewell to Sabah after spending four years with the club.
The 27-year-old, who made more than 100 appearances in all competitions with the club, confirmed his departure yesterday, reflecting on his time and relationships built with the Rhinos.
“After four years and more than 100 appearances, thank you, Sabah,” he said.
“It’s been an incredible journey, with plenty of great memories.”
Wilkin arrived in Sabah on loan from Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in 2022, before securing a permanent spot at the end of that year.
There is word that Wilkin will be making a return to the Southern Tigers midway through the Super League season, making him the second midfielder brought into the club after Portugal’s Rui Felipe.
Wilkin also thanked those around him in Kota Kinabalu who helped shape his chapter in Sabah.
“Thank you to my teammates and staff both past and present, and to the fans who have supported me throughout my time with the team since 2022,” he said.
Sabah’s management announced that Wilkin left the club on mutual agreement, thanking him for his efforts with the team.
Wilkin had been a key figure in the squad since his arrival, and had gone on to make 109 appearances for Sabah, with 17 goals and 21 assists.
His departure also comes as a blow for Sabah, who had also said goodbye to defender Daniel Ting earlier this month. Daniel is now on loan with Thailand’s Ratchaburi.
