Selangor, Penang and JDT claim Super League wins

PETALING JAYA: Selangor breathed a sigh of relief after edging Negri Sembilan 1-0 in their Super League clash at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Wednesday (Jan 14).

Midfielder Nooa Laine struck the decisive goal in the 61st minute to secure the win for the Red Giants.

In Cheras, Penang continued their fine run with a third straight victory after beating Kuala Lumpur 1-0 at the Cheras Stadium.

Faith Friday Obilor produced a moment of brilliance, netting the only goal of the match with a bicycle kick in the 36th minute.

The goal was briefly reviewed by the video assistant referee (VAR) following a possible offside, but it was eventually allowed to stand.

Earlier at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) overcame Kuching City 2-1 despite being reduced to 10 men.

Natxo Insa was sent off in the 56th minute for striking Kuching City’s Scott Woods, who had earlier given the visitors the lead in the 43rd minute.

JDT responded swiftly after the break, with Nacho Mendez drawing level in the 58th minute before Bergson da Silva sealed the win six minutes later.

In another match, Melaka recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Police at the Hang Jebat Stadium.
