Selangor move up to third, Devan leaves Melaka

PETALING JAYA: Selangor have moved up to third thanks to better goal difference after beating Melaka 3-0 in their Super League encounter at the Petaling Jaya Stadium here on Sunday (Dec 28).

But before kick-off, many wondered where Melaka coach Datuk K. Devan was, as his assistant S. Subramaniam took the touchline. It turned out that the veteran coach had resigned, with Subramaniam now in charge on an interim basis.

The first goal was scored by Jordanian midfielder Noor Al-Rawabdeh, who capitalised on a loose clearance by attempting an acrobatic shot past Melaka goalkeeper Jun Badelic in the second minute.

Eight minutes later, the home side got their second through Cape Verdean winger Alvin Fortes, when his shot from 15 metres squirmed past Badelic.

The third in the 13th minute was a beauty when Al-Rawabdeh turned provider by crossing from the right, which was finished off with a volley by Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes.

The goals were enough for the home side as they held on to the lead and extended their unbeaten league streak to six, which began on Oct 5 when they beat Immigration 3-1.

Kuching City, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur share 25 points, but Kuching are second thanks to better goal difference.
