BANGKOK: National Under-23 striker Haqimi Azim Rosli will make a brief return to Malaysia to pay his last respects to his stepfather, Sharol Asikin Mohd Shariff.

Sharol passed away on Tuesday (Dec 9) morning after suffering a stroke a day earlier.

Haqimi is scheduled to fly back to Bangkok tomorrow and rejoin the team in time for Malaysia’s crucial Group A match against Vietnam at the Rajamangala Stadium on Dec 11.

The 22-year-old featured in Malaysia’s opening match against Laos, where he found the net in the team’s 4–1 victory.

Haqimi shared news of his loss on social media, expressing his deep sorrow.

“I will return to bid my final farewell.

"My father passed away this morning. His passing was very sudden and difficult for our family to accept, but we are at peace with God’s will,” he wrote.
