It's official - FAM file appeal to CAS over mixed-heritage players issue

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have officialy submitted their intent to appeal  to the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) on FIFA’s decision to suspend the seven mixed heritage players.

The national body have now until Dec 18 to file a complete written argument to the international sports arbitrary body in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In a statement issued by acting FAM president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi on Monday (Dec 12), he said the body have submitted an appeal to CAS in relation to the sanctions imposed by FIFA.

"We have submitted our appeal to CAS in regards to punishment meted to FAM and the seven mixed-heritage players," he said. 

"CAS have stipulated that the lawyers representing FAM have a period of 10 days, until Dec 18, to submit the complete written arguments.

"FAM emphasise their full commitment to undergoing this process professionally, transparently, and in compliance with all established legal procedures.

"All further developments will be informed from time to time."

FIFA’s appeal committee, in their 63-page motivated decision released on Nov 18, upheld every sanction previously imposed on FAM and the seven players, ruling that the use of falsified civil-status documents amounted to a serious breach of football’s core principles.
