PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have condemned the assault on sports journalist Haresh Deol in Bangsar on Tuesday (Nov 25).

FAM acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said the incident was unacceptable and went against the values the national body seek to promote in Malaysian football.

He described the assault as an attack not only on a journalist but on professionalism within the sport and said violence, intimidation or threats against media members had no place in the football ecosystem.

"FAM condemn in the strongest terms any form of violence, intimidation or threats against any individual, including journalists who play an important role in the national sports ecosystem," he said in an official statement.

"We hope the authorities will carry out a full investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice," he said.

FAM gave assurance that they will continue to work closely with the media to create a safe, professional and respected working environment for all parties.

Yusoff also extended his prayers and support to Haresh, wishing him strength and recovery from the ordeal.
