Selangor to appeal FAM sanctions

PETALING JAYA: Selangor will appeal to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) over the RM100,000 fine and two-match fan suspension imposed on the team for their supporters’ unruly behaviour.

Red Giants’ technical committee chairman Datuk Seri Shahril Mohktar said: “Selangor will be appealing.”

“Some of the charges that were brought up, we want to appeal and tell our side of things as well.”

“Personally, I feel both the RM100,000 fine and the two-match spectator suspension are harsh,” he said.

On Saturday, FAM disciplinary committee slapped Selangor with the fine and spectator suspension for their fans’ misconduct during the FA Cup quarter-final match against Negri Sembilan at the Petaling Jaya Stadium last month.

Negri had won the match 3-2, but Selangor advanced into the semi-final with a 6-3 aggregate win.

Selangor’s spectator suspension would see them play their next two FA Cup home matches in an empty stadium.

This includes their next FA Cup semi-final second leg match against Sabah, as well as the first FA Cup at home match next season.
