Motika makes his mark with dazzling show for Negri

An asset: Jovan Motika has been adding depth to the Negri side.

PETALING JAYA: Jovan Motika was brought in to add some flair on the flanks for Negri Sembilan.

But the Bosnian has shown that he is much more than just a creative winger - he has become one of the team’s most lethal finishers.

In 12 domestic appearances, the 27-year-old has netted eight goals and provided two assists, emerging as one of the standout signings for the Deer this season.

Motika currently leads Negri’s scoring chart, edging ahead of striker Joseph Esso, who has found the net five times in the league.

The Bosnian credited his strong start to how well he has adapted to the team’s system and the tactical preparation of the coach and his staff.

“I adapted to the team very quickly because I really like the way we play,” said Motika.

Motika believes Negri have already shown that they are a different side this season – one capable of challenging the league’s best.

“I’m proud and happy for my teammates because from the very first game, we’ve shown that this is a new Negri,” he said.

“We’re a club that can compete with anyone in the league and fight for the top.”

Still, the winger knows there’s no room for complacency.

“I hope we can keep this momentum going, but we must stay humble and continue working hard.

“We want to fight for the Cup and aim for the top of the table because we have the quality to do it,” added Motika, who hopes the fans will return to support the team.
