PETALING JAYA: Reigning FA Cup champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their charge for a fourth consecutive title after defeating Penang 5-1 on aggregate in the two-legged quarter-final.
In the second leg at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Tuesday (Oct 28), the Southern Tigers cruised to a 3-0 victory, with goals from striker Bergson Da Silva (38th minute), left-back Jonathan Silva (40th), and centre-back Eddy Israfilov (45th) to secure a spot in the semi-final.
JDT had earlier secured a 2-1 win in the first leg in George Town on Oct 25.
JDT will face either Kelantan or Sabah in the semi-final.
In another quarter-final clash, Terengganu edged Kuching City 2-1 at the State Stadium in Kuching, but it wasn’t enough as they bowed out 3-5 on aggregate. Midfielder Raianderson Da Costa netted a brace for the Turtles in the 12th and 90th minutes, while Kuching’s Ronald Ngah scored in the 32nd minute.
Kuching had put themselves in a strong position after thrashing Terengganu 4-1 in the first leg in Gong Badak on Oct 25.
This marks Kuching’s first-ever appearance in the FA Cup semi-finals since the club’s founding in 2015.
They will face either Selangor or Negri Sembilan in the semis.
