Malaysia to face Vietnam in SEA Games group stage

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have been drawn with Vietnam and Laos in Group B of the men’s football competition at the SEA Games in Thailand.

The draw, conducted on Sunday (Oct 19), saw hosts Thailand handed a favourable group with Cambodia and Timor Leste.

Group C is shaping up to be the group of death, featuring defending champions Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore, who will battle for a place in the semi-finals.

Only the three group winners and the best runner-up will advance to the last four.

The men’s football event will be held from Dec 3 to 18, with Group B and C matches taking place in Chiang Mai, while Group A fixtures will be played in Songkhla. The semi-finals and final will be staged in Bangkok.

In the women’s competition, Malaysia face a tough test after being drawn in Group B with defending champions Vietnam, silver medallists Myanmar and the Philippines.

Group A comprises Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia. All matches will be played in Chonburi from Nov 4 to 11.
