FAM's competition management system hacked, data security at risk

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) official competition management system (CMS) has reportedly been hacked by irresponsible parties, raising concerns over the security of the country’s football data and records.

The incident occurred on Monday (Oct 6). A message demanding ransom on the site confirmed the hack.

"If you are a domain owner, click the button below to make a payment. For security purposes, if payment is not made within 13 hours, all databases will be automatically deleted," said the message that can be seen when entering the website.

The CMS is a key online platform that stores important information, such as player records, match statistics, team registrations, and competition documents, under FAM’s management.

FAM have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but was expected to do so once its internal security report is completed.

The hacking incident comes at a challenging time for the national football body, which was already under pressure following FIFA’s suspension of several heritage players and sanctions on the body for allegedly doctoring documents.
