Cops better armed for JDT after gunning down first victory

PETALING JAYA: The Police football team are well aware that taking on Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) today will require digging deep, but captain Amir Saiful Badeli believes their recent win has injected much motivation into the side.

It may have been only their first win in the Super League after defeating Kelantan 3-1 last month, but Amir said the victory has fired them up for the big test.

“It’s given us good momentum to move forward. The team had not won before that, so it definitely helps to motivate us to keep it going,” said Amir.

Hosting the Southern Tigers at the Selayang Stadium will be a daunting task as they have won all their Super League matches so far this season but Amir and Co will rely on teamwork to get a result.

“It’s obvious that JDT will be the stronger team. They have big names, and tactically they are very good,” he said.

“But for us, the most important thing will be to remain focused, disciplined, and remember to just work with each other.’’

Eleven-time Super League winners JDT will be without the services of mixed-heritage players Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel, who have been suspended by FIFA.

For Amir, he said JDT’s line-up are not something they’re paying too much attention to, instead the priority remains on ensuring his side perform well.

“JDT are the best team in the league, we can see that. No matter who plays, it’s the same.

“We just need to focus on ourselves. We know we have to work really hard, and we want to give JDT a good fight,” he said.

Before their win against Kelantan, Police had recorded three draws and one loss. They are currently eighth in the standings.
