Unionistas de Salamanca suspends Gabriel Palmero after FIFA ban

PETALING JAYA: Gabriel Palmero has been suspended by his club Unionistas de Salamanca CF.

The decision follows the 23-year-old defender receiving a 12-month suspension from FIFA.

The team, which competes in Spain’s third division, said it had been informed of the disciplinary action by FIFA and is gathering more information before taking further steps.

“Unionistas de Salamanca CF has received notification regarding FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee imposing sanctions on the Football Association of Malaysia and seven of its players,” the club said.

“This includes one of our players, Gabriel Palmero, for violating Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” it added.

“The team is collecting all relevant information about the case to assess next steps.

The player will be excluded from any sporting activity until an official development is announced,” it said.

Palmero has won four caps for Malaysia and was touted as the country’s future left wing-back.
