FIFA sanctions sideline Garces

PETALING JAYA: Deportivo Alaves will be without defender Facundo Garces for their La Liga clash against Real Mallorca this evening, following a disciplinary sanction announced by FIFA on Friday (Sept 26).

The Basque club confirmed the news through an official statement, revealing that they had been notified of the decision by FIFA’s disciplinary committee.

"Deportivo Alaves wish to emphasise their respect for the presumption of innocence that applies to the player, and express their hope that the matter will be resolved as swiftly as possible," the club said in the release.

The absence of Garces, who has been a key figure in the Alaves backline this season, will come as a blow to manager Luis Garcia Plaza as his side looks to build momentum in the league.
