FAM focus on future after Joehari calls it a day

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are determined to move forward following the shock resignation of Datuk Joehari Ayub (pic) as president.

Joehari’s decision to step down just six months after taking office surprised many, but acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi stressed that the national body must now focus on the road ahead.

“Simply put, we want to move on,” said Yusoff during a press conference at Wisma FAM yesterday.

“The important thing is that we look ahead to what we need to do for the future of Malaysian football.

“Many things have been planned and need to be implemented and executed, and that’s what we want to focus on.”

FAM announced that they had accepted Joehari’s resignation on Wednesday after their second special meeting for the current term.

But Yusoff stressed that Joehari’s departure was not due to internal politicking within the governing body, but instead personal reasons that he did not dive into.

“Those are all just speculation. We accepted his (Joehari’s) resignation, and we respect his decision.

“There’s nothing serious at play here at FAM. Joehari’s reasons are his own, and I can’t say what they are.

“It was a personal decision of his and we wish him all the best in his next endeavours.”

Yusoff will hold the position of acting president until the FAM Congress is held next year.
