Joehari set to step down as FAM chief

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Joehari Ayub could be leaving the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

It is learnt that the football governing body's president handed in his resignation letter and emptied his office.

"We are aware that something is brewing but nothing can be confirmed yet," said a source close to FAM.

Joehari has only been in charge of FAM for six months after taking over from Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin in February 2025, and his term was supposed to run until 2029.

Deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi is expected to be appointed as acting president in the event of Joehari's departure.

Joehari is the eighth FAM president and the first from Sabah, Yusoff, meanwhile, has held the deputy president's post since 2017.

The Star has reached out to Joehari and FAM deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi but has yet to receive a response.
