PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Futsal Cup third-place playoff ended in ugly scenes after an altercation broke out between two Sabah officials.
The match itself was dramatic, with Johor Darul Ta’zim mounting a stunning comeback from 1-3 down to snatch a 4-3 victory.
But the spotlight shifted after the final whistle, when Sabah coach Roger Felipe Gouveia Augusto stormed onto the court.
Team officials tried to restrain him, but when one attempted to calm him down, Augusto refused to back off.
The exchange quickly escalated. Augusto elbowed the official, who retaliated with a punch that floored the coach.
The enraged official then threatened to hit him again before being pulled away by colleagues.
As he was escorted out, the official could be heard shouting “bodoh” (stupid), before the situation eventually subsided.
On the court, Sabah had taken an early lead through Brazilian Nattan Soares, who struck twice in the 12th and 14th minutes.
JDT responded almost immediately, with Mahadir Harahap pulling one back in the 13th minute. Farith Ahmad’s 27th-minute goal restored Sabah’s two-goal cushion, but it was all JDT from there.
Syed Aizad (33rd), Firdaus Ambiah (38th) and Ridzwan Bakri (39th) completed a spirited turnaround for the Southern Tigers.
