PETALING JAYA: In-form forward Darren Lok (pic) is determined to keep Sabah’s home fortress intact when they take on Kelantan at the Likas Stadium today.
The 34-year-old is riding high after his hattrick in Sabah’s emphatic 6-0 win over Bunga Raya in the FA Cup round-of-16 first leg at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi on Thursday.
He was at the heart of the Rhinos’ attacking masterclass, opening the scoring inside 10 minutes before adding two more after the break.
While delighted with his performance, Darren knows the bigger test is consistency.
“The vibe is good, we’re happy with the start of the season, but now it’s important we get three points at home,” said the Malaysian international, who has 38 caps and six goals to his name.
“We can’t underestimate the Red Warriors, they are just coming off the back of a great result against a good Kuala Lumpur side (in the FA Cup), so we know they will be coming here full of confidence,” he said.
“It won’t be easy, but we have to believe we can win.
“We have a strong home record, and we will get into the game feeling confident too, and we know our fans will be there too.”
Sabah’s preparations have also been lifted by the presence of coach Jean-Paul de Marigny, who joined the team earlier this month.
Marigny replaces Alto Linus, who is now the assistant coach of the team, while last season’s coach Martin Stano is back to his usual role of being a fitness coach.
“JP comes with lots of experience and has adapted well,” said Darren.
“He’s a really good coach and a good guy, so I’m sure he will be successful here at Sabah and enjoy his time.”
