Badrul hopes to lift Turtles with some new faces

KUALA TERENGGANU: Newly appointed Terengganu head coach Badrul Afzan Razali is all fired up to improve their standing in the Super League this season with a new-look team.

Badrul said Terengganu would come up with several new faces to strengthen the team, thus vying for the Super League title and chasing Asean and Asian championship slots this year.

And he is optimistic that he can bring the Turtles, who finished fifth in the Super League last season, to greater heights.

“I am very grateful to the club for entrusting me with the job to manage the main Terengganu team,” said Badrul.

“Despite facing great challenges, I am determined to improve on last season’s achievements.”

Acting chief executive officer Syahrizan Mohd Zain said Badrul’s one-year contract would effectively start from July 1.

He said that with the appointment, the former interim coach of Terengganu last season would take on the responsibility of forming the Turtles squad, ranging from members of his coaching staff to the selection of players.

“This decision was made after taking into account several important factors to ensure the club are able to move forward more effectively in the Malaysia Leagu.

“The squad will begin training on July 1. Hopefully he (Badrul) can continue his good performance and bring greater success this season,” he said in a statement. — Bernama
