Dylan wants Panthers to bare their fangs in Super League finale

PETALING JAYA: With three matches remaining in the Super League, Penang’s Dylan Wenzel-Halls (pic) is hoping the team can have a smooth ride to the end of the season.

The Panthers are currently in ninth place in the league with 20 points, and the Australian striker wants the team to finish the season in a good position.

“I really hope we can finish the season strong and continue good performances. We need to really push for the nine points in the last three games.

“Of course, we know this is going to be difficult, but we must aim for this and give it our all. After that, what will be, will be,” he said.

Penang are coming off a 0-3 loss to 11-time Super League winners Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on Sunday, and Wenzel-Halls wants to brush off the defeat and look ahead to their final three matches.

The 27-year-old admitted that his performance during the clash with JDT wasn’t the greatest, but he is getting himself adjusted to the local football scene well.

“My performance wasn’t the best against JDT. But overall I am getting better after every game.

“I have adapted to the culture, lifestyle, and the heat here and I’m enjoying my time in Malaysia.

“Prior to the JDT game I was performing quite well, so it was disappointing but we move on,” said the former Central Coast Mariners player.

Wenzel-Halls also commended teammate and youngster Ahmad Haziq Kutty Abba, noting that the 20-year-old has been a force during training.

“He has been phenomenal in training. Especially in the last two months, he has gone to another level.

“Haziq is going to be a very good player in Malaysian football. He is working hard and pushing himself to be like his brother, of course. He is a fantastic young player,” said Wenzel-Halls.

Haziq is the younger brother of national footballer Syamer Kutty Abba, who also plays for Penang on loan from JDT.

Penang will be travelling to Seremban to play Negri Sembilan next on April 5, before hosting Kuala Lumpur at home on April 20.

For their final fixture, Penang will take on Pahang in an away fixture in Kuantan on April 26.
