PETALING JAYA: Will Pahang and Kedah not compete in the Malaysia Football League (M-League) next season?
Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim seems to believe so.
The Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) owner made the shocking revelation on Wednesday (March 13), stating that both clubs will not be participating in the league for the 2025-2026 season.
He said this during a question-and-answer session with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) fans in Johor Baru while stating that the Malaysia Cup final against Pahang will be an emotional fixture.
“I am sad about one thing for this final against Pahang. Yes it will be our 30th title, but it will also mean saying goodbye to a good friend, my uncle, Tengku Muda Pahang, and a historic club like Pahang because they will cease to exist next because of internal issues.
“Kedah is also a club with a strong history, but will also not be around next season. Who’s at fault?
“This is all because of mismanagement of funds. You have RM10mil, but you spend RM15mil. I am truly sad.
“I hope they find a way to sort out their problems. But financial mismanagement is the biggest problem in Malaysian football.
“It’s because those running the league and clubs have no interest or knowledge about football,” he said.
Last month, Kedah owner Tan Sri Dr Daud Abu Bakar had dismissed claims that the club was closing down.
He had also made an emotional plea on the club’s social media accounts asking those in the state, especially those who have committed to help the club, to provide funds for the club.
