Sabah striker Saddil needs to up his pace to take team higher

PETALING JAYA: Saddil Ramdani played a starring role in Sabah’s win in the Super League on Saturday but he was not jumping for joy.

The Rhinos beat Negri Sembilan 2-1 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi on Saturday, with Saddil scoring a goal for the away team as early as in the sixth minute.

Brazilian striker Joao Pedro delivered the second goal in the 71st minute.

Negri tried to create panic on the opposing camp towards the end when Myanmar winger Hein Htet Aung broke the duck in the 84th minute but that was as far as they went.

Sabah stayed at the third spot with 32 points from 17 matches but Saddil wants to up the tempo to close the gap with Selangor.

Selangor are only seven points ahead of them in the second place.

Saddil is getting into his groove but knows he needs to come up with much bigger performances if he wants Sabah to hit great heights.

“I can’t fully say that I am satisfied with how I have been performing. I need to do better but what’s important is that we work as a team to get results,” said the 26-year-old former Indonesian international.

Sabah’s coach Martin Stano said they lost momentum towards the end.

“This match was indeed interesting. We started the game well by scoring the opening goal but lost a bit of confidence after that,” said Stano.

“We were fortunate that Negri didn’t manage to equalise although they played with high spirits. We had to work hard until the final minute to get this result.”

“This season is still long and there are many matches to be played, the focus is to stay consistent.”
