Selangor beef up defence with signing of Jambor

PETALING JAYA: Selangor have signed up lanky Croatian Nikola Jambor (pic) to remain defensively solid in the AFC Champions League Two and Super League.

The 29-year-old Jambor was the last player hired by the Red Giants during the transfer window in addition to Jordanians Ali Olwan, Mohammad Abualnadi and Kalamullah Al-Hafiz.

Jambor is expected to make his debut when Selangor face Cebu FC in the AFC match at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Thursday. They had started their Group H campaign by holding Thai club Muangthong United 1-1 on Sept 19.

Standing at 1.88m, Jambor is also expected to make his maiden appearance in the Super League when Selangor face Police on Oct 19.

Jambor said he did not think twice when he got the offer from Selangor.

“Selangor got my attention because of their detailed plans and I felt their objectives and my mission were aligned,” said Jambor, who had played for Saudi Division Two club Hajer.

“I’m here and it feels like home. We will have to work together to achieve the plans set by the club.”

The player fondly known as Niko also has vast European experience as he had played in the Croatian top division with several teams.

Coach Nidzam Jamil believes Jambor would promote healthy competition within the team as he brings his physical presence in midfield with his aerial prowess, tackles and interceptions.

“No one can rest easy. Jambor can give a real fight in midfield,” said Nidzam.

“This competition would only give the team a positive impact when we compete in the continental competition and Malaysian league,” he said.
