PETALING JAYA: Pahang playmaker Sergio Aguero wished he had a better start in the Super League but an ankle injury spoiled it for the footballer.

Now that he has recovered, the naturalised Argentinian has vowed to return stronger after the international break.

Aguero, who can play as a striker or attacking midfielder, only made one substitute appearance so far in the Super League for the Elephants. His team are now lying fifth with four points from two matches.

In the first game against Kelantan, coach Fandi Ahmad fielded Ukrainian second striker Mykola Ahapov in their 1-0 win last month and Aguero only played for 15 minutes as a sub.

In their 2-2 draw against Kuching City, the 30-year-old sat on the bench throughout the game.

Aquero said he would be fully fit for the upcoming games after surviving a minor ankle niggle.

“I’m feeling great and training hard to secure my spot in the starting 11. We have many talented players this year and a strong team overall,” he said.

“I am always confident in my abilities and focused on doing my best to help the team succeed. My goal is to continuously improve and be the best version of myself.

“Last year was a good season for me, and this year I aim to perform even better to help Pahang reach the top.’’

He said having a good communication with the coach was important.

“We always talk with the coach and have a lot of confidence in each other. I will always follow his decision because he wants the best for the team.”

Last year, he played 20 matches in all competitions and scored five goals.

While he is raring to go with his club, Aguero is also making waves in the sports business as he revealed that he has opened up a padel court in Kuantan.

Padel is a racquet sport which originated from Mexico, usually played in doubles in an enclosed court.

“My wife and I want to promote this sport and a healthy lifestyle in this part of the world. I played padel 10 years ago in Argentina and it is an amazing sport for all ages.

“Plus, it is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and many prominent people are playing it. Even Cristiano Ronaldo has invested in the sport. We thought it would be nice to have it in Kuantan,” said Aguero, who also owns three futsal courts in Kuantan.
