Bench warmer Jafri turns hot stuff for Sabah

PETALING JAYA: Former Harimau Muda player Jafri Firdaus Chew has now become a super sub for Sabah.

The 27-year-old winger scored the Rhinos’ 85th winner in their 2-1 Borneo derby win over Kuching City on Saturday at the Likas Stadium after coming on for just 13 minutes.

His feat may have raised many eyebrows but for Jafri, he was just carrying on from where he left off last season when he also plundered a few goals after coming off the bench.

“I guess that has become my regular job for a player who’s not a regular,” quipped Jafri, who now looks forward to getting more minutes as Sabah head to Indonesia during the international break to play in a friendly tournament featuring teams like Persija Jakarta, PSIS Semarang and Selangor.

“We look forward to this tournament as it will keep us sharp when the season resumes.”
