PETALING JAYA: Selangor captain Safuwan Baharuddin (pic) has reminded his teammates not to allow the negative incidents off the field to affect their focus as they seek a second win in the Super League against Negri Sembilan at the Petaling Jaya Stadium today.
On Wednesday, burglars broke into centreback Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee’s house while he was training with the squad and stole his motorcycle, four sling bags and the passports of his family members.
The Red Giants camp were also rocked earlier this month when winger Faisal Halim suffered fourth degree burns after he was splashed with sulfuric acid by two unknown assailants on May 5 at a shopping centre in Damansara.
Safuwan said it was tough for them to deal with two negative episodes in the space of a month but as professionals, the players must thrive on the adversities and deliver on the field.
‘’We must stay strong as a team and continue getting good results in matches,’’ said the 32-year-old Singaporean.
“As for safety, the club management are doing their best to protect the players. My task as captain is to ensure the harmony of the team remains intact.”
Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil said Khuzaimi is still training with the squad and will be considered for the match against Negri.
“He is a true professional and has a strong mindset. He continued to train with us the past few days despite what happened at his home,’’ said Nidzam.
Meanwhile, Safuwan is looking forward to taking on his former team Negri, whom he played for last season for six months before rejoining Selangor in the second transfer window.
The Deer, under the tutelage of Azzmi Aziz, lost their first game 1-3 to defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) last weekend but still earned praise for their tactical organisation.
