Value for money as Brendan kicks off new season with Kuala Lumpur

Workhorse: Brendan Gan during his playing journey with Selangor.

PETALING JAYA: The wait for Brendan Gan is over as the national player will join Kuala Lumpur for the Super League season starting this May.

The City Boys have snapped up the 36-year-old player, who has ended his time at Selangor early last month.

Kuala Lumpur chief executive officer Stanley Bernard said Brendan’s presence would do more than just to elevate their performance on the pitch.

“Brendan is a top professional, we are buying the player as well as the brand, along with the professionalism that he brings to the team,” said Stanley.

“He is a player who is highly regarded in the industry and has done great service to the country and clubs that he has previously played for.

Brendan, who has been playing in Malaysia for over 10 years, will be a valuable asset joining Kuala Lumpur head coach Miroslav Kuljanac’s dressing room.

“This is a huge signing for Kuala Lumpur. I think he (Brendan) will blend in well in the squad,” said Stanley.

“We’ve got top draw players in the dressing room with good spirits and environment, that is how we have done in the last three years.

“I believe that Brendan is going to add absolute value to the team and that is very much needed when you’re chasing consistency,” said Stanley.

Before news of his signing with the City Boys broke, Brendan shared a heartfelt message to his former club Selangor, stating that he wished to stay with the Red Giants, but was not given the opportunity to do so.

“At the end of the season, I was hoping to have the opportunity to discuss my future at Selangor and carry on the success into 2024.

“Unfortunately, the Selangor management did not give me the chance to discuss or negotiate to stay at the club.

“Thank you to all my teammates over the years who have become brothers and I wish you all the best.

“The backroom staff, the coaching staff who push the team to be at our best, and lastly our media team.

“Thanks to all the loyal Red Giants supporters. It was such an honour for me to lead the team and club on and off the field, and did so with every bit of blood, sweat, and tears,” he said.
