Sorry, Sony can’t find the right beat with Terengganu

Out in the cold: Terengganu will not extend Sony Norde’s contract but he has a few offers.

PETALING JAYA: Winger Sony Norde has left the Turtles’ nest with a heavy heart to find a new home.

The 34-year-old Norde wanted to remain with Terengganu for the new M-League season but his wish did not materialise after the club decided to let him go.

Obviously, former Mohun Bagan player was disappointed but he is staying put in Malaysia.

“I wanted to stay on but the club management did not extend my contract.

“They did not offer anything, so yes, there is a tinge of disappointment,” said Norde, who has won 27 caps with Haiti.

“But this is football, I have to move on.”

There is a speculation that Norde will play for Mohun Bagan in the Indian Super League but the former brushed aside the rumour.

“I will stay here in Malaysia. I have three offers but I cannot reveal now. I need to assess and make the best decision for my career,” said Norde.

Throughout his time with the Turtles last year, he scored six goals over 28 matches in all domestic competitions and netted three in the AFC Cup.

Norde even captained Terengganu in some matches when midfielder Habib Haroon was not available.

“I tried my best in every game. I’ve had a wonderful experience with Terengganu. I learnt a lot from the players and coaches. There were good and bad moments, but overall, my time there was a good one.”

The others who are leaving are centrebacks Adib Zainuddin and Sardor Kulmatov, fullback Azarul Nazarith Azhar, winger Rahmat Makasuf, midfielders Haroon, Liridon Krasniqi, Omid Nazari and Mohamad Shafawi, strikers Jordan Mintah, Fazli Ghazali and Adisak Kraisorn.

As for extensions, the club have confirmed that Croatian striker Ivan Mamut will stay on.

The club also announced the contract extensions for Safwan Mazlan, Ubaidullah, Samsul Fazili, Syahmi Zamri, and Uzbekistani Nurillo Tukhtasinov.

It is learnt that the club may also bring Johor Darul Ta’zim wingers Akhyar Rashid and Safawi Rasid on loan for the new season.

Last season, Terengganu finished sixth in the Super League, qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals and played in the Malaysia Cup final.
