PETALING JAYA: Kedah fans, it’s time to ramp up the atmosphere at the Darulaman Stadium!
Nigerian striker Ifedayo Olusegun is rallying the Canaries supporters to help them overturn a 3-1 deficit against Perak in the Malaysia Cup round of 16.
Having lost the first leg in Ipoh, Kedah must score more than two goals and not concede any in the second leg at the Darulaman Stadium today if they are to reach the quarter-finals.
And the 32-year-old Olusegun believes they can accomplish that feat with the help of fervent home support.
“This is the Malaysia Cup. The mood in these games is different compared to the league. As much as we respect Perak, this is our turf and we’re playing in front of our fans,” said the player fondly known as Dayo.
“In the first leg, Perak enjoyed the support of their fans. This time, we expect a good turnout from our fans.
“The home support will lift us and I expect a great atmosphere at the stadium.’’
Since joining Kedah in July, Olusegun has impressed by scoring five goals in just four Super League matches.
Brought in to replace Brazilian Willian Lira, the former Selangor and Felda United has adapted well to coach Nafuzi Zain’s tactics.
He hopes to get on the scoresheet tonight with the end result of Kedah progressing to the last eight.
“As a striker, I always go into every game with the aim of scoring. But this match will demand a lot from the other players as well, as we’re two goals down. A united effort is needed for us to pull through,’’ he said.
