Panthers won’t let another east coast side stand in their way

PETALING JAYA: Penang hope to bounce back after a bitter loss to Pahang as they head to Gong Badak to face another east coast side Terengganu in the Super League at the Sultan Mizan Stadium today.

Going on the road can take a toll on the body, but the Panthers believe they have what it takes to take down the Turtles.

And the last two days, the team have been working hard on their finishing to ensure there will be no repeat of their 0-1 defeat to Pahang.

Coach Manzoor Azwira said it would not be easy facing Terengganu, but his boys are eager to show they can take teams down despite being away from home.

“I hope mentally we can focus on the game. We will not underestimate Terengganu. They have quality and experienced players. We will take this game seriously and overcome our weaknesses. We will make sure the players would do their best,” said Manzoor.

“We have to improve, and in the two days of training, we worked hard on finishing. We are getting confident.

“Maybe there would be changes up front. We will look at various options.”

When asked about his opponents, Manzoor said they must be wary of Terengganu’s strike force, especially Haitian winger Sony Norde (pic), who is in good form.

Penang striker Soony Saad said: “We hope to come up with a result. We’ve been successful with counter-attacks, but we want to have more of the ball. We will look to exploit any spaces.

“I work well with Akif (Nik Akif Syahiran) and Adriano (Narcizo). Their final balls are dangerous, and I hope to finish them off when I get them.

“Coach gives us freedom. He doesn’t control every aspect of the game. I want to play more than what I am doing, and let’s hope it can be seen against Terengganu,” said Soony.

Penang and Terengganu are similar on points with 14, but Terengganu are eighth, while Penang are ninth thanks to goal difference.
