Malaysia in the semi-final of the AFF Mitsubishi Cup

PETALING JAYA: Harimau Malaya mauled Singapore 4-1 to confirm their spot in the AFF Mitsubishi Cup semi-final.

In their final Group B game, the Malaysians showed great intensity and aggression to down the Lions, who came to get a point to qualify, at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday (Jan 3).

Midfielder Stuart Wilkin was the star when he scored in the 50th and 55th minute, both beauties, while striker Darren Lok scored the first goal in the 36th minute.

Substitute Sergio Aguero got the fourth in the 88th minute with a superb finish from outside the box.

Singapore’s consolation was scored by Faris Ramli in the 84th minute.

The win sees Kim Pan-gon’s side finishing second in Group B with nine points, while Vietnam top the group with 10 points.

Malaysia will face Thailand in the two-legged semi-final, starting at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Jan 7.
