PETALING JAYA: A Datukship and three important points, what more could you ask for?
There was certainly no Monday blues when Dollah Salleh (pic) got out of bed.
The Pahang coach started his day by heading to the palace to receive the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang which carries the title Datuk from the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
He was accompanied by former national teammates – Zainal Abidin Hassan, Pahang assistant coach Ahmad Yusoff and Yunus Alif – who were also bestowed the award.
To cap an unforgettable day, he then steered Pahang to a fine 2-0 win over Kedah in the Super League, the Elephants’ second successive win.
Colombian striker Steven Rodriguez scored both goals in the 32nd and 67th minute.
Dollah said Aug 1, 2022 will be remembered for the rest of his life.
“It can be considered a perfect day in my life. During the photo session, the King asked if Pahang could win against Kedah. I said, of course,” said the 58-year-old former national coach.
“I’m glad I fulfilled the promise. It was a good result, the boys performed well, I’m happy. Two wins on the trot show some progress, but some aspects still need work.
“I know we can do more, but we are slowly building up. It’s a good sign for the team.”
When asked about the Datukship, Dollah said it was a pleasant surprise.
“I have to thank the King for the honour. I did not expect it. And it was a great occasion as three of my football buddies were also honoured.”
Dollah revealed that he was inundated with congratulatory messages and admitted to feeling awkward when people started calling him Datuk.
“It didn’t feel normal, even my close friends are calling me Datuk.
“Maybe after five days, I will get used to it.”
