No sweet music for Sony as Melaka tune up for tight contest with KL

PETALING JAYA: Melaka’s Haitian winger Sony Norde is flying high in the Malaysia Cup with five goals, but he will face a much meaner defence in the semi-final against Kuala Lumpur.

The Mousedeer take on Kuala Lumpur in the first leg at the Cheras Football Stadium today.

And they are pinning their hopes on the 32-year-old Norde and his attacking partners Adriano Narcizo, S. Kumaahran and Manuel Ott to get a good away result.

The fearsome foursome have been the highlight of Melaka, who have plundered 18 goals in the competition.

Norde and Co, however, may face a stiff test against KL’s solid backline, who have conceded just four goals in eight matches.

Norde admits the encounter against KL will be tough, but he believes with great determination and aggression, they can pull through to the final.

“I think we need to be more aggressive than KL in every aspect and take our chances well.

“At the same time, we need to defend well and be more disciplined,” said Norde.

“I attribute our good form so far to our hard work and determination, and I’m thankful for the second chance to prove ourselves after our struggles during the league season.

“We’re playing with more desire, and we’re more aggressive than before. I hope we can achieve our target to reach the final.”

As for his much praised combination with Adriano, Kumaahran and Ott, a modest Norde claims they are still getting to know each other better as teammates.

“The quality is there, but we can’t take anything for granted.

“We must keep working on our combination so that we deliver consistently for the team.”
