Red Giants making slow strides but Aliff’s showing huge potential

PETALING JAYA: Selangor may not have made the best of starts in the Super League but the Red Giants can take heart that they have a youngster who is showing huge potential to be a future star.

Midfielder Aliff Haiqal Lau (pic) has played in all of Selangor’s five games so far and the 20-year-old is showing a maturity beyond his years in his demanding position.

Best of all, Aliff is combining well with the big boys and has impressed with his ability to make defence-splitting passes and dictate the game’s tempo.

For the record, he has played 258 minutes for Selangor and has made the starting line-up for two matches.

Aliff is savouring every opportunity and is highly motivated to make more contributions to the team in the coming matches.

“It’s been a positive experience so far. Coach Karsten (Neitzel) believes in my abilities and allows me to play with the senior players. I’ve learnt a lot from the five games I’ve played so far, and I will keep giving a 110% per cent each time I’m on the field, ” said Aliff.

Ambitious and forward-looking, Aliff added he wants to play a big role to help Selangor restore their glory days and also make their mark on the Asian stage.

“I’ll work harder to become a better player for the benefit of myself and the team. We’ll strive to achieve the team’s objectives together, ” he said.

Selangor lie seventh in the Super League standings with only five points from five matches.
