Q: How would you describe your 2019?A: Last year, JDT won the Super League, Malaysia Cup and Charity Shield. All of us in the club did our best to ensure we reigned supreme in Malaysia. As for the nation, we are doing pretty well in the 2022 World Cup/2023 Asian Cup qualifiers. In the eyes of the people, that means I did well last year. However, I am the kind of player who is never easily satisfied with my performances. I always feel I can do better. If I can produce my best consistently in 2020, that would be great.
Q: Usually in Malaysia, when a player hits 30, his form tends to dip, but that has not been the case for you as you still give young centrebacks a run for their money. What’s the secret?A: I am 32 now, turning 33 in August. Since I started my career, I never really cared about my age. My only aim was to get games, play the game and give back to the fans. Some may say that I am on the wrong side of 30, but I believe I can give my best for many years to come. I always believe you can reach greater heights, whether you are 20 or 40.
