Luqman likely to get SEA Games nod

PETALING JAYA: Teenage sensation Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin is keeping his fingers crossed that he will get a spot in the Under-23 team for the Philippines SEA Games.

It is learned that national team winger Safawi Rasid has pulled out of the squad to take a break after a long season.

The 17-year-old earned his call-up after helping Malaysia qualify for the AFC Under-19 Championship earlier this month.

Luqman said he will definitely repay coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s faith if he gets the nod.

“Playing in the SEA Games has always been my dream,” said Luqman yesterday. “I watched the 2017 edition from the stands and made a resolve to try make it into the team this year.

“I know it’s a difficult shoe to fill but I will give it my best shot,” said the Kelantan lad.

“There is no pressure at all for me as I always give my best when I step into the pitch both in training and during matches.”
