FAM issue partial gag order ahead of World Cup qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have issued a partial gag order on the national team ahead of their second round FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

The media are only allowed to interview one player per day after the training session with the national team coach.

The players are not allowed to talk to the media throughout the national team’s ongoing centralised training camp.

National team coach Tan Cheng Hoe said the new rule was to keep the players focused.

“It’s good for the media to interview players but we need to keep them focused as we are preparing for the crucial World Cup

qualifying campaign, ” said Cheng Hoe during the training session at the Cheras Football Stadium yesterday.

Cheng Hoe’s men will play a friendly match against Jordan at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Friday before kicking off their qualifying campaign against Indonesia at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Sept 5.

Besides Indonesia, the others with Harimau Malaya in Group G are the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Thailand.
