JDT TMJ beat JDT Rest of the World in charity match

JOHOR BARU: Fans were treated to a charity match featuring legendary football stars at Larkin Stadium here on Sunday (June 30). 

JDT TMJ beat JDT Rest of the World in front of more than 17,000 excited fans. It scored nine goals while JDT Rest of the World netted five.

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah and other members of the Johor royal family attended the match.

Among the players are Rivaldo, Bebeto, Florence Malouda, Robert Pires, Louis Saha, David Trezeguet, Marco Materazzi, Claudio Caniggia, Robert Pires, Edgar Davids, Gianluca Zambrotta, Esteban Cambiasso and Claude Makalele.

These players have won major trophies in their respective careers including the World Cup, Champions League and league championship in Europe’s major leagues.

They’ve also played for big clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax Amsterdam, Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Sunday, several Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) current and former players, coaching staff as well as local artist Joe Flizzow also took part in the game.

A hat-trick by former Chelsea and France winger Malouda, a double from his compatriot and former Arsenal player Pires, and a goal each from Tunku Ismail, Materazzi, Trezeguet and Diogo Santo completed the rout for JDT TMJ.

Meanwhile, goals by JDT Rest of the World were scored by former France and Manchester United striker Saha, Brazilian 2002 World Cup winner and former Barcelona player Rivaldo, as well as Dutch midfielder Davids and former Argentinean national player Caniggia.

All proceeds from the match will be donated to the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation, National Cancer Society of Malaysia and the Women’s Aid Organisation.
