PETALING JAYA: Buriram United successfully defended their Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup title after defeating Selangor 3-1 on aggregate on Wednesday (May 27).

The Thai side entered the second leg match with a one goal advantage, and retained their title by winning 2-1 against Selangor at the Buriram Stadium.

The Red Giants were first to break the deadlock as midfielder Syahir Bashah’s long-range attempt in the 18th minute got past Buriram goalkeeper Neil Etheridge to level the aggregate score.

However, Buriram replied nine minutes later through Suphanat Mueanta to put the hosts ahead once again.

In the second half, the defending champions doubled their lead thanks to Theerathon Bunmathan in the 55th minute when he sent a stunning volley past Selangor goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel to win 3-1 on aggregate.
