PETALING JAYA: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) hopes more companies will follow the example of Qi Group to help advance the Malaysian football scene.
Qi Group has now taken ownership of Malaysian Indian Football Association (now rebranded as PJ City FC) in the Super League for the 2019 season.
FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said Qi Group had set a good example for the Malaysian corporate world.
Subahan added that PJ City FC had passed the FAM licensing department's checks and have been cleared to play in the Super League.
"I laud Qi Group and its executive chairman Datuk Seri Vijay Eswaran's decision to give back to Malaysia and local football. It will be great if more corporate bodies or individuals do this," said Subahan.
"Pick a local club and help them go forward instead of investing in foreign clubs.
"I believe the government should play a bigger role in getting the corporate sector involved in sports ... maybe with tax exemptions and so on," he said.
