PETALING JAYA: The Elephants are on a roll at home this season and it’s all thanks to the Elephant Army.
Pahang skipper Razman Roslan said the home fans have played a significant role in the team’s strong showing at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.
“The vociferous home support and playing to a full-capacity crowd have spurred the team to win all four home matches so far.
“There is no doubt we have been playing better at home. The Elephant Army have been a tremendous boost to the players. This is evident by our success at home. In fact, we have also scored big with 11 out of the total 16 goals coming from home matches,” said Razman on Thursday.
Pahang opend their home campaign with a 1-0 win over Super League champions Lions XII in the Charity Shield match on Jan 17. Since then, they have won their matches against Johor Darul Ta’zim (3-2), Armed Forces (4-1) and Sarawak (3-1).
In comparison, the away games have been dismal, with a win, a draw and three defeats.
Razman said they have to show the same kind of determination in away games if they are to make a strong claim for the Super League title.
“We have to be more consistent and show the same kind of spirited performance in away games. But the competition is tough this season. We will do our best to collect as many points at home,” said the former Selangor player.
He believes Pahang have a well-balanced side with influential foreign signings and locals. Leading the onslaught for goals are Argentine Matias Conti and Nigerian Dickson Nwakaeme while the two local frontrunners are Mohd Azamuddin Akil and Fauzi Roslan.
They also have nippy flankers and midfielders in R. Gopinathan, R. Surendren, Hafiz Kamal and Azidan Saruddin and two strong defenders in Zesh Rahman of Pakistan and Damion Stewart of Jamaica.
Pahang are currently second in the 12-team standings with 16 points. Table-toppers Terengganu, who have a game in hand, are ahead on goal difference.
Pahang are scheduled to play basement side Perak in Kuantan on Saturday.
