PETALING JAYA: Springboard specialist Chew Yiwei will not be fighting for a third career-Asian Games medal.

With four months to go before the Hangzhou Asian Games in September, Yiwei announced his resignation from the national diving team yesterday.

Yiwei is one of the senior divers in the current national set-up in Bukit Jalil and has been involved in the sport for the last 13 years.

Malaysia Swimming Federation secretary Mae Chen confirmed the 27-year-old is leaving the national team as his parents wants him to focus on his studies, where he is in the final year of Computer Science course.

Yiwei was the only Malaysian male diver to be on the podium at the last Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018 when he took bronze in the men's 3m springboard individual.

Yiwei partnered Ooi Tze Liang to take bronze in the men's 10m platform synchro in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
