PETALING JAYA: Pandelela-Rinong-Leong Mun Yee came up short in their bid to win Malaysia's first medal at the Tokyo Games, finishing last out of eight competitors in the women's 10m platform synchro final.
They began well and were in medal contention after their first-two dives at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Tuesday.
But as the competition progressed, their performance took a nosedive, especially in their last three attempts and eventually could only accumulate 277.98 points.
Chen Yuxi-Zhang Jiaqi retained the title for China with 363.78 points.
Americans Jessica Parratto-Delaney Schnell and Mexicans Gabriela Agundez-Alejandra Orozco took silver (310.80) and bronze (299.70) respectively.
Pandelela had won the silver medal with Cheong Jun Hoong in this event at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Sarawakian will now have to wait until Aug 4 to make amends in the 10m platform individual competition where she will compete alongside Cheong Jun Hoong.
