NILAI: Reigning world champion Hetty van de Wouw of Holland ended national rider Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri’s stunning run in the women’s sprint event at the Track World Cup in Nilai on Saturday (April 25).

Izzah went down to the Dutch rider in two heats in her very first quarter-finals' appearance on the world stage.

It was still a very much impressive effort from the Kedah-born cyclist, who had earlier set a new national record in the qualifying round.

Izzah clocked a solid 10.541s to place seventh overall in the individual sprint qualifiers at the National Velodrome.

The time erased the previous national mark of 10.578s that she had set at the World Cup meet in Turkiye in March last year.

Izzah defeated Belgian Zita Gheysen in the first round and Ukraine’s Alia Biletska in the second.

Teammate Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid clocked 10.626s to place 12th and also book her spot in the opening round.

Alyssa beat Belgian Nicky Degrendele in the first round but lost to Colombian Stefany Cuadadro in the second round.
